Skechers has introduced a children’s shoe collection that includes a concealed space to house an Apple AirTag, offering parents a new way to monitor their kids’ whereabouts without using phones or wearables.
The newly released line, named Find My Skechers, features a hidden cavity built into the midsole of each shoe. This compartment is accessed by removing the insole and lifting a fabric cover to reveal a recessed area that holds the tracking device. A screw-on plastic cap secures the AirTag inside, making it harder for children to remove or access, especially toddlers.
Designed for children between the ages of one and ten, the shoes are offered in multiple sizes, styles, and colors. Despite the added tracking functionality, Skechers has kept the design visually consistent with its regular children’s footwear—there are no external signs that the shoe includes tracking capabilities.
The company’s approach prioritizes discretion. There is no visible indication that a tracking device is embedded inside, which may appeal to parents seeking a low-profile way to monitor young children.
The introduction of this tracking feature, however, has stirred conversations online. While some see it as a safety benefit—particularly in crowded spaces, camps, or schools—others express concern about the long-term effects of close monitoring. Experts note that older children aware of being tracked may react with resistance, and with many preteens now owning smartphones, the presence of an AirTag can easily be discovered and disabled.
In addition to child safety, social media users have pointed out potential benefits for other age groups. Some suggest that a similar shoe design could assist caregivers of elderly individuals with memory loss or wandering tendencies.
The sneakers are machine-washable and currently available for purchase. The AirTag, which enables GPS tracking through Apple’s network, must be bought separately.
